What is the simplest way to restrict LinkFreeze to exclude all subfolders, i.e. to only work on the root folder of a web?  Thanks.

Try the following regular expression pattern:
@/[^/]*

Thanks - that works fine.

One related problem - Is there a way of disabling LinkFreeze from acting on a section of code in a file?  Specifically I am using FCKEditor, which is called in ASP and inserts automatically, amongst other bits of code, a link, which then gets converted by LinkFreeze.  I want this link to be untouched but other links to be converted.

You can use HTML Link filter for this purpose. There is no special syntax to disable LinkFreeze for specific section of code.
