I am having some difficulty (after downloading the lite version) of seeing even the most basic rewrite rule work (I am using the SEO with ASP.NET book by Darie and Sirovich).  As I always get a 404 error, I assume my mistake has to do with tweaking my current setup (II6) but am uncertain how to tell the rest of my computer to play nicely.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

James

Sorry; drawing blanks on both of your suggestions (I am a writer).

Here is the rule and utrl:

# Translate /my-super.product.html to /Product.aspx?ProductID=123
RewriteRule ^/my-super-product\.html$ /Product.aspx?ProductID=123

url = http://localhost/seoasp/my-super-product.html

Correct rule for the above URL is:

RewriteRule /seoasp/my-super-product\.html /Product.aspx\?ProductID=123 [I,L]

Thanks - unfortuantely I still get the same message:

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /seoasp/my-super-product.html

Would that be found in the II6.log file?  If so, the last entry is for July 29.  If not, can you help me with the file name please?

File name depends on your IIS configuration. You could find it in the logging properties of an IIS web site serving the request.

Probably not since I do not see any relevant requests here.
