we have setup htaccess/htpasswd with APE. works great for firefox, but not for IE. internet explorer does not accept entered username/password.

we choose auth mode "basic" and for passwd we have "Basic" for authentication type and "Apache MD5" for encryption.

it seems, that internet explorer cant handle this properly. any solutions or hints ?

i think i solved the problem. we deactivated windows authentication for the subfolders (only anonymious) and now it works. no idea if this is the right way or just a workaround. but it works

is there any documentation "how to setup password protection with htaccess and APE ?"

Yes, you should disable Windows authentications. Otherwise they interfere.
