mapping file has reached a limit

09 Jun 2014, 21:05

Hi there.

We ran across a problem with our mapping file where we seem to have reached a character limit. When the character limit is passed, the entire file fails to load and all redirects stop working. When we scaled the file back by a few dozen lines, it began working again. As we added more redirects - and reached that limit again - it failed again.

The file is roughly ~3500 lines long. We hemmed in a huge 60,000 page site to a 5,000 page, hence the massive mapping file.

Has anyone else run into this before? Any recommended solutions? We realize we have to trim the file, but it's a massive job and may take time. If there's some other way to work this, I'd be interested to hear it.

Thanks.

Hello,

This is the first time someone complains about mapfile size limitations. Generally, mapfile size is unlimites and the only restrictions are the max file size allowed by OS and the size of virtual memory on your machine.

Can you clarify the following:
- what Windows version you are using
- what build of Ape you are using
- what error do you get? is it 404 because all RewriteRules stop working?
- please enable logging in httpd.conf by putting

RewriteLogLevel 9
LogLevel debug

and provide rewrite.log and error.log records for working and non-working mapfile.
