Recommendations on max lines

I have a simple question. What is the recommendation on the maximum amount of lines that should be the .htaccess list? I am wondering if I will see performance issues if I have too many. Currently my website has about 150 rewrite rules and the site gets quite a bit of traffic. Will I see any noticeably increased performance if I am able to reduce the number of rules?

You may have as many lines as you memory may hold.
Performance issues could be experienced with couple thousand of rules with a big amount of traffic going through.
So far, I believe, you're safe.
