High CPU Usage - java.exe

26 Oct 2012, 08:11

Hi

I am testing zoo, using railo, all installed and working OK - great work by the way, however I am seeing very high CPU usage for the java.exe process for each of the sites its installed on, even when there is no activity at all.

Just wondering if this is normal?

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

We have recently implemented new Railo and Java integration solution. Now it includes Railo 3 and Railo 4 as well as Jetty 7 and 8. The packages are different from what was available before. Please upgrade your installation first, then if problem persist we will investigate further.
To upgrade simply install Java Hosting Package and CFML Hosting Package from Zoo -> Packages.

I Installed this morning with the Web Platform Installer, so I assume I am on the latest versions. Railo 3

Not sure, because we have moved this packages from beta feed to production feed this morning. If you have active install button near Java Hosting Package, then you can upgrade.

Perhaps its not available yet. Java Hosting Package in Web Platform Installer is telling me 17/5/2012 and Installed, no option to re-install.

Then I guess you already have latest version. Just go to Engines and make sure Railo 3 in displayed as instaled. Microsoft Web PI shows only release date and not the latest update date.

Can you provide some information on what applications you are running on Railo? You can see which web sites consuming CPU resources using Process Explorer - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... 96653.aspx
Different java.exe processes will be listed under different application pools.

Each website runs as a different user so I know which process is attached to each website and can see easily using task manager. The website is a single page with a single <CFOUTPUT> tag (Just testing things work) the site was showing 50% CPU once the first page request has been run regardless os usage. However......

I went back to the web platform installer and installed Jetty 8, I noticed there was something which wasn't installed 'Jetty Configurations for Helicon Zoo'. I installed both of these and CPU usage is now minimal, and not at all when the site is inactive. The current install is still using Jetty 7 (I think), so must have been Jetty Configurations for Helicon Zoo I guess.

Now I have Jetty 7 and 8, how do I force Zoo to use 8 and remove 7 (I guess Just delete the Jetty Folder)?

By the way, thanks for all your help.

You can read about Helicon Zoo Module configuration here: http://www.helicontech.com/zoo/module.htm
From what I remember Railo 3 is not compatible with Jetty 8. Jetty 8 is used to run Railo 4 beta projects. You can simply install Railo 4 project from templates and put your CFML files there, it will be executed using Jetty 8 services.
Check web.config files for both projects, you can see how Zoo engines are invoked so you can simply modify web.config file to call appropriate engine next time.

Return to Helicon Zoo
