Helicon Ape and apps running under app pool set to No mana..

16 Apr 2016, 10:33

Hello,

is there any chance to have Helicon Ape also running under applications which are runned under application pools set to No managed code? This is suggested configuration for ASP.NET 5 websites so it would be nice to know if this scenario can be covered too by Helicon Ape.

Thanks

Hello.

I don't know how it could be a suggested configuration for ASP.NET sites, since ASP.NET is 100% managed code, which means you cannot run it in the App Pool with managed code disabled, but the answer is no it is not possible. Ape is written in C# and is IIS Managed module, it cannot run in the pools with .NET runtime disabled.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about upcoming ASP.NET 5. Take a look here:

http://docs.asp.net/en/latest/publishing/iis.html

At the end you have:

"Set the application pool to No Managed Code. ASP.NET 5 runs in a separate process and manages the runtime."

So they finally move it to match other server technologies best practices - out of the process. Unfortunately, the answer is still no - Ape works on the integrated pipeline. You cannot move Ape out of the process because it needs to sit inside IIS processing pipe to interact on various stages. And Ape is too big to rewrite it completely using a new language, sorry.
