Cannot do a manual install of Helicon Ape

17 Jan 2017, 06:13

A trial version of Helicon Ape has already been installed on my computer some time ago. When I try to re-install or uninstall+install HA, it does not create a manual install folder. It just re-creates the old installation (files/folders with previous installation dates, namely 15.08.2016)

The installation file I am using is Helicon_Ape_0256.msi on a Win10 (64 bit) computer.

How can I create my manual install files? Please help!!!

Hello.

Re-install only restores the installation you already have. To obtain manual installation files you need to uninstall Ape, and then run installation package again. At the beginning of the installation you will be offered a choice of options how you wish to install Ape: complete, management tools only, manual install. Choose manual install options and this will create folders you need. I agree this is probably not the best way so sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you Yaroslav,

I already tried your suggestion, but without success.

But your suggestion induced another solution in my mind; and it really worked:

I went to repair the installation in Windows Add/Remove Programs and noticed that Manual installation is disabled by default. I enabled it and when I completed the repair, the Manual Install folder finally appeared.. (Strangely enough, all files in the folder have the old installation's dates)

Thank you again for the inspiration :)

But ...

This time, the Manual Install folder does not have all the necessary files, for example: web.config.

The exact folder contents are in the below/attached image.

The web.config file is not a part of the manual installation package. If you are installing Ape on existing website chances are it already has web.config file. There are instructions what you need to add to your web.config file to start Ape on a website: https://www.helicontech.com/ape/doc/minstall.htm Generally it's just a text file, you can create it with notepad.
