I recently installed HotlinkBlocker and ran it in the REFERRER setting. It worked for everyone except those behind proxy servers, so I had to turn it off.

If I use the LINK setting, will images show up for AOL, MSN, etc. users who are behind a proxy server? If so, are there any other issues? (time-out's etc.)

LINK protection should work fine for proxy users.
Or enable empty referrers by putting the following exression in whitelist: @^$ But note it will create a little hole in hotlink protection.
