Okay, so this will sound dumb.

We are using vista in house.  It complains whenever you create a file with no prefix to the period.  Is there a simple way to just tell ISAPI rewrite to use .htaccess and htaccess.txt  So that we can keep things simple for administration?

Thanks,

Hope I'm not to much of a goob for asking.

Hi indesignfirm!

You can use Notepad.
1) Create new text document (*.txt)
2) In menu: File -> Save As
3) In opened dialog please choose type "All files", select location, and set file name to .htaccess

Hi Vyacheslav,

Thanks for your response.  I know that there are several ways around it.  However, it doesn't show up in our development software either because of the formatting of the file.  When we are trying to track down a problem with a site, it's much easier to be able to view it all in one place.

If there is no way to programatically do it, I can live with that, I was just wondering if there was a command I could add to my conf file to do it automatically.  Like "include htaccess.txt"

I do appreciate your help very much though!  Very much.

Thanks,

InDesign Firm

Is this for a single site?  Can you not just put all the directives within <VirtualHost> tags in the httpd.conf file?

As an aside- have you figured out how to turn off the stupid option that hides extensions for known file types?  I know how to do it in XP, but not yet in Vista.

Ok. Please try the following solution:
Code:
AccessFileName htaccess.txt

You must write it in httpd.conf

No, it's actually for multiple sites.  We develop on IIS for our customers then push to our live LAMP server.  LOVE IIS Rewrite.  It has made life sooooooooooooo much easier.

Yes, we have figured out how to turn it off for VISTA.  It's actually the same way you turn it off for XP, or for the most part.  You just need to go to my computer, and then make sure you have the toolbar turned on.  From that point, you can go to to edit -> preferences and do it like you did in XP.
