Hi there,
Have a problem with link protection giving AOL browsers dead images. If the same user uses IE all is well. Is there a Hotlink blocker and AOL problem? Thanks.

Can you please provide a piece of IIS log for the request in AOL browser.

Thanks. I will get that for you and post it shortly.
Am I correct in that link protection looks for the signature AND the IP address to be correct?
With AOL, they use a proxy server that has the effect of every element of a page appearing to come from a different IP address.
Once the containing HTML is rendered and given all of the image link signatures, if they were then requested from a different IP address, would they fail? I am guessing this could be the problem?

For LINK protection it's vitaly important that the request to protected resources is performed from the same IP address as for .html/asp page.
As an alternative we may suggest you to use REDIRECT protection method.

Unfortunately AOL doesnt give us any control of the IP. Is there any way that LINK protection can be configured to not use the IP address as part of the verification, and just use the signature? It is a big problem of Hotlink Blockers functionaility if it cant work with one of the worlds largest ISPs. Many thanks.

Sorry I forgot to mention that we can't use REDIRECT as we use it for PDF and media files. This is the very reason we chose Hotlink Blocker, as the LINK method seemed to support everything we need, but there was no mention that it doesnt work with AOL users. Thanks.

Currently it is impossible to use LINK protection method while having different IPs.
We are thinking of implementing IP-less LINK protection in the next build, but this may take a little while.

Do you have an idea of how long this might take? I need to know if I can wait for your next build, or if I need to find an alternative solution. The current situation with AOL users failing is quite an urgent one. Many thanks.

The new build will be available within a few days - most likely on Tuesday.

New build is available for download. We've added a tick "Involve client IP address" which should be unchecked for you.
